The Brandenton Herald reported last Friday that a Manatee County court dismissed obstruction charges Friday against a man who was arrested while sleeping inside his car after he was involved in a minor accident and ordered not to drive by a Florida state trooper.
The Sheriff’s Office sent a SWAT team, canine unit and even a helicopter to approach the driver, smash his window and then yank him out of his car after he failed to comply with their orders.
The above driver was involved in a car accident where he rear-ended a 2011 Chevrolet Impala with his 1996 Cadillac Seville. He admitted to the police that the car accident was his fault as he was tired and not paying attention to the road.
The driver struck in the rear insisted on calling police who issued a citation to the distracted driver for careless driving, which is the usual charge for a Florida rear end car accident.
The police officer preparing the report noted that this driver fell asleep two times during his preparation of the accident report. The driver told the police he had been taking strong prescription pain medication for a neck injury he suffered in another rear end crash. The officer ordered this driver not to drive. He was later arrested when discovered napping in his car.
